The Relatives Came
Author: Cynthia Rylant
Illustrator: Stephen Gammel
Awards: Caldecott Honor
Grade Level: K-1st
Summary:
In this book, the relatives come to visit the main character and her family for the summer, from Virginia. They talk about all of the fun things that they are doing and how it is different having so many people in the house. There are lots of hugs and tears until one day it is time for the relatives to go back home to Virginia but they can't wait to come back again next year.
Evaluation:
This is a great book to read to children to get them thinking before times that they have relatives who come visit them or when they go somewhere to visit other relatives. This is a really easy book for children to relate to and enjoy while they begin to get excited for anyone they are soon going to see. I would recommend this book as a read aloud to aid discussion in the class.
