Grade Level: 1st-3rd

Summary: John's favorite house is his Grandpas, however, he sees it differently since he is blind. John closes his eyes and tries to spend the day seeing like his grandpa.  He learns that his grandpa has a great since of smell and hearing because he cannot use his eyes. His grandpa is able to show him where the birds are and which ones event hough he never sees them with his eyes. He is able to smell the marigolds in his grandmas garden as well. John enjoys learning how to see through his grandpas eyes.

Evaluation: This is a sweet book that I would recommend to my students and could use to teach the five senses. We could also use our senses in isolation when we eliminate other ones, just as Josh and his grandpa did. I think this is an easy book for kids to understand that some people have different impairments, but that doesn't mean they can't live life to t
he fullest, it just means they live life a little bit differently and we can all learn from that.
