Summary:

Rescue comes from a line of seeing dogs; however, he is partnered with Jessica, a young girl who injured her right leg and will now have to adjust to wearing a prosthetic leg. She doesn't seem too happy about it but with the help of her new service dog, she builds a new friendship that will allow her to learn to walk again. Unfortunately, Jessica received the news that she would have to amputate her other leg which caused her and Rescue to start all over again in training her how to walk. Rescue changed Jessica's life because he helped give her the confidence and strength she needed to walk again.

Evaluation:

This is a heart warming story that students will benefit from. Having service dogs and emotional support animals are becoming more and more common these days so it is important for young children to understand why some people have animals go with them to school and to the store, rather than them constantly point at these people. This book does have larger words such as amputate and prosthetic that children may have a difficult time understanding so it is important for the teacher to explain these words to them. I would definitely have this book in my classroom to encourage my students to better understand real life problems that people face.
