No More Monsters for Me!
Author: Peggy Parish
Illustrator: Marc Simont
Awards: None
Grade Level: K-2nd
Summary:
Minneoapolis Simpkin was not allowed to have any pets, but her mom never said anything about a monster. She decides to hide a monster in her basement but as she feeds him he begins to get too big for her to handle. She tries to get her mom to help but her mom refuses to believe that her daughter has a real monster in her house. Minneoapolois then goes on a search for the monster's home which they then find in some dark hills. The monster is happy and her mom said that since she got rid of her monster she can now have a pet, which she chooses to get a kitten.
Evaluation:
This is a great leveled reader for students to read independently or during guided reading because of the vocabulary words and simple sentence. This book really sparks imagination and helps students begin to focus heavily on dialogue within a story. After reading this story, I would choose to have more books by "I Can Read" in my classroom to help my students advance in their reading abilities.
