Summary:
Bilal gets to help his dad make his favorite meal, daal, but he is nervous that his friends won't like it since its a dish from Pakistan. His friends are all excited to try it but begin to complain that it is taking too long to cook. His dad sends them off to play as daal needs a lot of time and patience to finish cooking. As the children spend the day together they keep asking when it will be finished, until Bilal's dad finally calls for them. Bilal hears his friends say that it smells and looks different, but they all loved it! This made Bilal very happy to be able to share his favorite meal with his friends.

Evaluation:
I loved this book so much! I would for sure read this book to my students because it is so easy for kids to say at lunch that someone else's food looks or smells funny, but if they read this book first we could discuss that different cultures eat different meals. I would love to have a class discussion about the different cultural foods that we eat in our classroom.
